e may say that he became an author by chance because he was an employee in the Max Glücksmann house which released the Nacional discs, at the branch that the company had in Montevideo, on 966 18 de Julio Avenue.

The contact he used to have with the artists of that recording label in that city, tempted him to write lyrics for popular songs, and he was awarded a first and second prize at a tango contest held in 1927 by that enterprise in that city with “De tardecita”, with music by Nicolás Messutti, and “Compadrito”, with music by Carlos Warren, respectively.

He joined the Asociación Uruguaya de Autores (A.G.A.D.U.) in 1931 and filed in the record “De Tardecita” (that Carlos Gardel recorded because of that award), “Compadrito”, “Toda mía”, “Por distinto camino”, “Montevideo [c]”, “Nada más que vos”, “El picaflor” and some others that did not stand out.

He used to say he had shared some stories with the great singer but he refused to tell them for this work; it was believable because when the singer committed to record his beautiful “De tardecita”, there was a friendly link between both men.

Alvarez Pintos was born in Montevideo on February 11, 1902 and there he died on July 12, 1973.
