heater impresario and author. He began as amateur actor and for over forty years he was in show business, leading and organizing theater companies and touring the interior of the country, Uruguay and Brazil.

Led by the tango craze existing in the theatre milieu, he wrote several pieces with music by renowned maestros like Osvaldo Fresedo and José María Rizzuti which reached different kinds of acclaim with the people.

Two of them, “Bésame en la boca” and “Arrabalero”, achieved a remarkable acclaim and they are, precisely, the ones that were committed to wax by Carlos Gardel, the great singer with lots of friends in the show business milieu where they met and became acquainted.

The following deserve to be remembered: “Amar a besos”, “Rezongos", with music by Rizzuti; “Pinturita” with Fresedo; “Pirulo” with Alberico Spátola; “Corazón callate un poco” with Armando Baliotti; “He visto en tus ojos” and “La piba del Ta Ba Ris” with Francisco Canaro, and many Spanish songs composed by his wife Aurora del Río.

Calvo was born in Rois (La Coruña, Spain) on August 13, 1891 and passed away in Buenos Aires on March 26, 1959.
