e learnt to play piano with a teacher in his neighborhood and, later, for some months he studied bandoneon playing with maestro Calixto Sallago.

And excellent bandoneon player and pianist, he joined different groups throughout his career, like the Horacio Salgán Orchestra, and the bandoneon section of the Orquesta del Tango de Buenos Aires which was led by maestros Carlos García and Raúl Garello, from 1985 to 1991.

He was also music director of the show Tango por dos, which showcased the dancers Miguel Ángel Zotto and Milena Plebs. When Daniel Binelli ceased to be the music director of the show, Jorge Rutman took over.

With the Zotto and Plebs Company, he made a long tour of the United States, Canada and Europe, and appeared in Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Finland, Denmark and Spain. He also traveled to China, Japan and Australia.



He worked with the pianist Orlando Trípodi, with Eduardo Del Piano, with Ismael Spitalnik, of whom he keeps a loving memory, at the Bien Porteño venue with Ernesto Baffa and his trio, and as well as pianist of the Julio Pane trio. Furthermore, he was pianist of the Eduardo Cortti orchestra.

Rutman appeared at the Gustavo Russo’s show Tango seducción in which the bandoneon player Miguel Ángel Varvello was the leader. They went out on tour throughout Holland, Turkey, France, Switzerland, Israel and other countries.

He appeared as musician at the show of the dancer Iñaki Urlezaga, and as bandoneon soloist with the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra at the Yoki Expo in 2010 and in Seoul (Korea), at the Expo in 2012.

He went to South Africa as substitute for the late Ángel Sanzó, and played again with Miguel Ángel Varvello and the violinist Reynaldo Nichele, who was a great friend of Rutman’s.

He accompanied and recorded with the singers Roxana Fontán and Gabriela Lavalle.

He played in a large number of night venues of Buenos Aires, among them, Caño 14, with the orchestra fronted by Salgán. Presently, and for nearly thirty years, Jorge Rutman is member of the Camerata Porteña, with which he has made tours of Russia, Spain, Panamá, Venezuela, Uruguay, Mexico and Australia. They released four albums.

His bandmates in the Camerata Porteña are: Marcelo Rodríguez Scilla (piano, arrangements and leadership), Claudio Melone (viola), Claudio Becker (violin), Sebastián Prusak (violin), Alejandro Borgo (guitar), Mario Kyrkiris (cello), Ángel Bonura (double bass), Sergio Palestrini (sax). Fernando Herman (violin) and Nicolás Porley (tenor sax) were also members of this ensemble.
