In the land where Gardel became a thrush and Discépolo depicted the 20th century with the truths of Cambalache, it sounds logical that the best site in the country be concerning tango. We are talking of TODO TANGO (www.todotango.com.ar), which has been awarded with the "Matear de Oro" prize for the best site in the country and with the "Matear de Plata" for the best site in the Tango and Folklore category.
The site deserved it. It was the first Web page declared of national interest and its contents are complete. The Matear prizes were granted by the enterprise chambers of the computing business (Cicomra, Cabase, Cessi and Usuaria) and they are a great incentive for the development of the virtual contents in Argentina.
Furthermore, the site has biographies, chronicles, photos, lyrics and sheet music, and a complete dictionary of lunfardo (slang). And also besides this information, it has sound. In the section "The Selection", tango fans can enjoy the best music in Real Audio or MP3. One of the most exquisite spaces is the one devoted to Carlos Gardel. The man that sings better each day has his on-line biography, a list of his 15 short films and a note that tries to explain the phenomenon of a surname that turned into an adjective: to be Gardel is to be the best. Of course, the chance to listen to the voice of the mythical creole thrush is not absent. The site is the result of the effort of the Civil Association "Coleccionistas Porteños de Tango", whose fundamental purpose is the spreading of this emblematic music from both margins of the River Plate.
Lyrics confer a very special touch to the page. Because it is only necessary to listen to a paragraph -"Primero hay que saber sufrir, después amar, después partir y al fin andar sin pensamiento..." (First you have to know how to suffer, then to love, later to part and lastly to walk along without thought)- to realize that you are reading the genial lyric that Homero Expósito left written in "Naranjo en Flor". For those who like to play tango, the sheet music section is very interesting. After all, the whole site is good. Because like Carlitos, this site is the best.
