e emigrated to Montevideo in 1840 and there he wrote against Rosas all the things he wanted to say.

In his exile he published his famous novel Amalia; part of his poem Canto del Peregrino; nearly all his poetry and his plays El Poeta and El Cruzado.

After 1852 he almost completely quit poetry and in 1854 he collected most of them in two volumes entitled Armonías.

Senator, deputy, minister plenipotentiary to Brazil and director of the Biblioteca Nacional (National Library) were positions he had as public official.

His poem Melancolía was recorded in 1912 by Carlos Gardel with his own music and entitled as “Brisas de la tarde” and later, in 1917, simply as “Brisas” was committed to disc by the Gardel-Razzano duet.

Mármol was born in Buenos Aires on December 2, 1817 and there he died on August 12, 1871.
