His first play, “Mala vida”, was premiered on July 7, 1911 by the company headed by Ulises Favaro. Others followed this one, over two hundred, in which the dexterity of a man who found his craft onstage is more brilliant than the values of his oeuvre as a true creation. Anyway, that repertory includes two deserving titles: “Judío” (1926) and “Burro de carga” (1941). Ivo Pelay also wrote many lyrics for tango, with scarce imagination and with superfluous, vicious phrases but, on some occasions, spiced with a genuine, clean local grace. His prolific stage of collaboration with Francisco Canaro is outstanding. |
