Cadícamo and the echo in the cathedrals

His lyrics were accompanied
by the music lines written by a long list of inspired composers. Here's
an example of each one: The thematic diversity, the variety of resources and the expressive richness of his oeuvre. He was the great poet of Buenos Aires. His lyrics touched a wide variety of subjects: brief love affairs ("Nostalgias", "La luz de un fósforo"), the financial troubles in the crisis of 1930 ("Al mundo le falta un tornillo"), a return to his parents' home ("La casita de mis viejos"), a reunion with his old flame ("Por la vuelta"), a woman without love ("Nunca tuvo novio"), his neighborhood ("Tres esquinas"), friendship ("Tres amigos"), a cabaret ("Palais de Glace"), gambling ("Naipe"), nightlife and the ephemeral success and later decline of a "woman leading a merry life" ("Pompas de jabón", "Vieja Recova", "Muñeca brava", "¡Che papusa, oí!", "Callejera"), a tragic juvenile love ("La novia ausente"), nostalgia for the faraway Buenos Aires ("Anclao en París"), loneliness ("Garúa"), a parody of tough guys ("Compadrón"), the Gardel-Razzano duo ("El morocho y el oriental"), a sad goodbye ("Los mareados"), the anguish of waiting ("No vendrá")...
He expressed beautiful poetic figures of speech: "la esgrima sentimental al fin surgió la tarde aquella... la luz de un fósforo fue nuestro amor pasajero" ("La luz de un fósforo"), la vejez la derrotó ("Vieja recova"),"duermen las chatas del corralón" ("Tres esquinas"), "un juego de calles se da en diagonal" ("Anclao en París"), "corazón vencido con tristeza de tapera" ("Garúa"), "hoy vas a entrar en mi pasado" ("Los mareados"), "llueve sobre el puerto, mientras tanto mi canción llueve lentamente sobre tu desolación... triste caravana sin destino ni ilusión, como un barco preso en la botella del figón" and, with reminiscences of Lorca, "puentes y cordajes donde el viento viene a aullar" ("Niebla del Riachuelo"). In his evocations he used the questions without answers, the "ubi sunt" of the Latin classics, as Idea Vilariño (El tango) and Jorge Göttling say (Tango, melancólico testigo): "¿Dónde andarás Pancho Alsina? ¿dónde andarás Balmaceda?" ("Tres amigos"), "¿Qué habrá sido de esa barra?... ¿Y del loco Puentecito?" ("Aquellas farras"), "¿Dónde estarán los puntos del boliche aquel?... ¿Dónde estarán Traverso, el Cordobés y el Noy, el Pardo Augusto, Flores y el Morocho Aldao?" ("El cantor de Buenos Aires"). Also with questions and in the Rubén Darío's style he wrote in "La novia ausente" this stanza full of beautiful metaphors: ¿Qué duendes lograron lo que ya no existe?
