Matear: The Web's Martín Fierros
Editorial of the PC users Number 104 of December 1999 about the delivery of the Matear awards.
A couple of weeks before, the delivery of the "Matear" awards was held, a contest organized by Usuaria (Asociación Argentina de Usuarios de la Informática y las Comunicaciones-Argentine Association of Computing and Communication Users; you can peep into its page in www.usuaria.org.ar), whose purpose was "to publicly acknowledge the best websites with Argentine contents in Spanish, with the object of promoting and emphasizing the growth of the use of new technological tools facing the XXI century".
The only requisite that the sites had to comply with to participate consisted in having a domain ending in ".ar". At the contest there were more than 20 categories about the most varied subjects, and the best site of each category was awarded with a silver small statue. I had the honor of participating as member of the board of adjudicators in the category "Games and Hobbies" (I especially thank the people of the Academ... emmm... sorry, of Usuaria, for the patience they had with me). In this category the winner turned out to be the games division of Dynamo (www.dynamo.com.ar/juegos).
Other sites awarded: www.espacial.com.ar (Sciences), www.sanlorenzo.com.ar (Sports), www.unimoron.edu.ar (Education) and www.osde.com.ar (Health).
At the end of the ceremony the "Matear de oro" (gold prize) to the best national undertaking was delivered, which turned out to be the www.todotango.com.ar site. I especially recommend you to visit this page because it is well designed and full of information.
In order to know who the rest of the winners were you can visit the web page of the contest, placed at www.matear.org.ar, a site where you will find as well further information about the contest (we hope the experience will be repeated next year)...
